I'm missing something here - even at a 5:1 claim rate, that's more bounties claimed than placed. Is this due to claims on corps/alliances against a single placed bounty?

Any numbers on how much has been paid back in unclaimed bounties? Or has the necessary amount of time not yet passed since Retribution was launched?

Either the kill that yielded 4 billion bounty isn't on eve-kill, or CCP got the date wrong. I don't see any kills on that date that have anywhere near 20 billion in losses, which is what would be required for a bounty that big to pay out.

Now that you've run the numbers, how many ppl have the token 100k-300k bounties from when they answered questions in the Help Channel?

First, I told you so.

Second, we would love to see the metrics on kill rights (sold, deaths resulting, highest price sold for, where, etc.).

Question: When you blow someone up the payout is based on the "Pend insurance value". Is there any way to find this value for an item other than blowing it up?

I quite enjoy collecting the occasional bounty (got another one just a couple of days ago), and out of my 3 accounts I have 1 character with a bounty. I traipse around on all of those characters pretty regularly.

I see plenty of characters with bounties, and I see plenty without, just like everyone else (other than, apparently, you.)

... and when those people ask "Why?" we'll use our new catch phrase.

"Because of Punkturis".

If people have a major issue with having bounties placed on them why not allow them to buy off the bounty on a 1:1 basis. If there is a 1 billion isk bounty placed on a character allow that individual to clear their name for a small offering of 1 billion isk.
This also has a nice isk sink effect.

An expiration, like EVERY OTHER FORM OF CONTRACT IN THE GAME, would make more sense from every possible perspective. But apparantly nobody at CCP is actually concerned with making bounties not stupid. They are just concerned with doctoring numbers to make themselves feel better about an expansion cycle spent on ultimately pointless work rather than actually make it not-stupid.

Punkturis, you are one of the cooler Dev's in my mind, please don't lose it by being like the others and avoiding the answers you don't want to know.

This needs to change. Players should be able to specify a reason, even if it's just limited to one line or something.

A non-sarcastic answer would be

"nnnn people have bounties of 300k or less, but we do not know why they got those bounties placed on them."

Or even better:

"nnnn people had bounties of 300k or less placed on them while they had the Help channel up, but we do not know why they got those bounties placed on them."

Edit: Or even better:

"nnnn people had bounties of 300k or less placed on them within 5 minutes of chatting in the Help channel, but we do not know if their chat activity was the cause of them getting a bounty".

yeah I like the idea, kind of like when you set standings towards someone, you can choose to leave a message with it.. but I'm not sure it will get done
